Succesful First MWC Americas

GSMA’s Mobile World Congress Americas 2017 wrapped up last week in San Francisco and, by all accounts, the inaugural event was successful and engaging. Overall, 21,000 visitors from 110 countries attended the three-day event focused on the mobile industry. Over 55% of attendees held senior-level positions, 2,400 CEOs attended, and 1,000 exhibitors from some of the industry’s leading companies including mobile operators, software companies, device manufacturers, Internet companies, and equipment providers were present. Organizers expect the event to continue to grow in 2018, where it’s scheduled to take place in Los Angeles.

Some highlights from #MWCA17 include:

  • 39 hours of content that featured more than 200 speakers. Keynotes were delivered by CEOs and senior executives from a range of top-flight organizations including AT&T, CTIA, the FCC, Mozilla, Nokia, PayPal, Qualcomm, Sprint, and Verizon.

  • 4YFN (4 Years From Now), the startup section of MWCA17, hosted more than 150 companies and startups from around the globe. During the three days, several activities were organized to promote connections between all the attendees as well as conferences and panels of experts in the field of digital innovation to discuss innovative trends. This was likely the most inspiring section of the event.

  • At the GSMA Innovation City attendees were able to experience how “mobile-connected products and services are improving the daily lives of citizens and businesses.” The IoT space was highlighted by participants like AT&T, Google, MasterCard, and more.

  • Women4Tech made its American debut at MWC Americas. The program is designed to “address the persistent gender gap in the mobile industry,” GSMA said. Organizers say this year’s event had a 21% female attendance.

For One World Wallets, the event served as a great opportunity to expand our brand awareness and connect with relevant industry leaders interested in engaging customers via mobile wallets. We left the show feeling confident that our products have a special place in the mobile world. The growth and acceptance of mobile wallets by the general public will continue to expand and we are excited to support businesses that are willing to venture in this innovative field!
